The Educational Issues of Marriage Relationships

According To The Saying Of Umm Zara'

'A'isha Um al-Mu'mineen 'Mother of the Believers' reported a narration known as the saying of Umm Zara' that one day eleven women sat together, and made an explicit promise amongst themselves that they would conceal nothing, while relating their experiences, with their spouses. 'A'isha narrated her saying in an accurate way. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) was so pleased to hear the saying of Umm Zara' as 'A'isha was narrating it, and made a comment on it. The saying of Umm zara has made many scholars take advantage of it, to form linguistic and educational perspective till this day.

The aim of this study is to explain, discuss, analyze and educe issues related to marriage relationships, from an educational point of view according to the saying of Umm Zara'. This study is divided into four content areas. These four contents are: Psychological, sexual, educational, and social.

The result of this study shows that the saying of Umm Zara' contains several educational guidelines in order to enhance the level of good mutual relationship of a married life. The core of the saying relates to us that a woman abhors any kind of verbal or physical abuse, especially when it comes from a life partner. In the light of this study, the qualities that the women admired and honored the most in their husbands were kindness shown in abundance, sympathy and the personal freedom of being and behaving as a responsible spouse. Furthermore, the husband is understanding enough to ignore and forgive minute issues that could scar the relationship. Also, women dislike it when their spouses do not acknowledge their ability to make good judgments and continues to degrade their personal capability. Finally, we can say that a wife likes her husband to satisfy her by quality listening, and enriched body language that will enable them to communicate with each other in a positive way.



For both partners, a physical relationship has to be a gift of mutual contentment of body and soul, and not just as the man's pleasure and the woman's physical obligation in a married relationship. The study recommended that educators should provide workshops for the newly married couples, in order to train them in skills that can assure them of a happy and peaceful married life.
